Hitting the Wall: The Energy Cost of Working Against Your Style

Episode Summary

Anything outside your natural style takes extra energy, even when you’re good at it and even when you’re enjoying it. Push through without a break and your strengths start working against you, and that looks different for every DISC style. Knowing what’s on your list, and on your team’s, means you can plan for the energy it takes.

Key Points:

  • Working outside your natural style is possible, but it takes extra energy, and you need downtime afterward to build it back up.

  • The same situation can energize one person and drain another, so leaders who plan around their own energy can wear down the people who work differently.

  • Find out what drains each person on your team, through their DISC report or a direct conversation, and share information early so the plan isn’t one more thing draining them.
