Rude, Flaky, Stubborn, or Nitpicky? How DISC Styles Get Misread Under Pressure
Episode Summary
When a deadline hits, the D gets called rude, the I flaky, the S stubborn and the C nitpicky, and those labels stick fast. Under pressure, we stop seeing someone's behaviour and start seeing who we've decided they are, especially when their style is the opposite of ours. Know what's driving each style, and the same words land completely differently.
Key Points:
Under pressure, we tend to treat someone's behaviour as who they are, and the labels stick hardest between opposite styles: D and S, I and C.
DISC helps separate the behaviour from the person, so you can ask what's driving it and read the same words in a completely different way.
Catch the misread early: question the story you're telling yourself, check the nod one-on-one, and tell your team what you look like under pressure before the crunch hits.
